Lead paint poisoning can be caused when paint is stripped, or flaky paint is present. Airborne particles can be inhaled and/or digested. Poisoning is almost immediate, especially in children. Testing involves sanding a small area of the surface that needs to be tested, and applying a liquid that turns color if lead is present.
